Memorial Textbook Grant

Purpose:

The Morrow County Retired Teachers Association is offering a $500 textbook grant to a high school senior planning to pursue a degree in the field of public education.

Requirements:

To be considered for the grant, the student must submit the following information to the high school guidance counselor by Feb. 28:

·        Completed grant application

·        List of extracurricular activities, honors, etc.

·        Official or unofficial copy of your most recent high school transcript

·        Copy of your ACT and/or SAT scores

·        Two letters of recommendation from teachers

·        A 500-word essay

Grant Information:

This grant is for a student who has displayed above average levels of academic achievement. Recipient will receive a one-time award of $500. Applicant must meet the following requirements:

·        Be a high school senior during the current academic year

·        Have at least a B average (cumulative)

·        Have at least a 22 ACT or 1000 SAT score

·        Plan to attend an accredited two or four-year Ohio college or university in the fall. The college or university must be a public or private institution from which you can receive a bachelor degree in education.

Completed applications must be received no later than Feb. 28.

The grant winner will be selected and notified by April 30 by the chairperson of the Grant Committee of the Morrow County Retired Teachers Association .

The recipient must provide proof of college or university acceptance and enrollment prior to receipt of the grant. Grant money will be paid directly to the student for textbook and other educational expenses.

Application Materials:

To be accepted for judging, an applicant must submit ALL REQUIRED ITEMS IN ONE PACKAGE as listed below.

·        Application Form

·        Statement of Activities, Honors, Leadership - On a single sheet of paper, list school and community activities, including years in which you participated. Identify leadership positions you have held. List any honors or awards you have received.

·        Copy of Transcript - High school transcript (either official or unofficial). Academic Achievement Scholarship applicants must have at least a B average (cumulative).

·        College Admission Composite Test Scores - Applicants must have at least a 22 ACT or 1000 SAT score. A copy of all test results should be included.

·        Two Letters of Recommendation - Applicants shall include two separate letters of recommendation from teachers and/or community leaders.

·        Applicant Statement - An essay written by applicant, no more than 500 words, doublespaced, typewritten, describing why public school education is important.
